Hanns Eisler's HOLLYWOOD SONGBOOK was written while the composer was living in Californian exile in the 1940s. Setting German poems to music, including many poems by Bertolt Brecht, Eisler's song cycle reflects the alienation that many artists who escaped Europe felt in the United States.

Singers Jessica Goldring, Darren Chase, pianist Bill Solomon and filmmaker Noe Kidder worked together to produce these short pieces. Here are a few short films with music selected from the larger project HOLLYWOOD SONGBOOK.

HOLLYWOOD SONGBOOK has been screened at Brecht Forum and Millennium Film Workshop in New York City.
